Technology

What was the world like before computers?

Computers are such an integral part of school now.  Here are some changes that I have noticed over the past few years.

Homework - all homework is online now.  Parents needn't wonder what their students have to do for homework... it's all available on the net.

Grades - ALL of the grades are uploaded onto the computer several times a week.  I always know if Lulu is handing in assignments and sometimes I know her quiz grades before she does.

Textbooks - All of the textbooks are available online.

And now... for the latest and most shocking evolution of all... Lulu's latest science homework will be handed in via you tube.  Can you believe it?  You tube?

That's right.  She had to do a project on the vocabulary works in this week's lesson.  She chose to do a "news report" about photosynthesis.  The teacher said that Lulu could just hand in the link to the video.  SHOCKING!

Here it is for your viewing pleasure.

Does anyone else find this shocking?????  I never got to do cool stuff like this when I was a kid.

Wow, seriously? That is craziness. Handing in homework via youtube is something I would never even think of!

Fantastic! But what about the children who do not have access to that equipment? Everyone does not have a computer..
I remember a little girl (many moons ago!) who was beside herself with joy because we got the TI computer and a VCR.. such modern developments!!!!

SusieQ - I totally agree with you. When I sat through back-to-school night it occurred to me that families without a computer are at a SIGNIFICANT disadvantage. You will hear some people say that the others can "go to the library" to access a FREE computer but this is not an equal option, in my opinion. The logistics of getting to the library, on a regular basis, for a family with multiple children is MUCH easier said than done.

Oh... and she did NOT have to hand in her report via you tube. She could have created a crossword puzzle, made a diorama, written a story, and so on.

Things sure do change with time...what will it be next? Anyway I think that Lulu did a great job!
